I've never done the Black Friday thing. I don't care to get up that early to stand in line... no amount of savings is that important to me.
This year though with doors opening at midnight, my plan, since I knew I'd still be awake, was to go to Target after midnight and get the few things I wanted at the sale price, and not have to wait in line. I pull up to the first Target at 11:30, the line was long to get in. I drove to another Target about 7 minutes away and the line was longer. So I went back to the first Target. I went against everything I had been saying all day... I got out of my car and waited in line :(
I waited about 20 minutes for the doors to open, and got inside Target about 10 minutes after midnight. I grab a cart, see all the craziness, avoid the TV's that were on super discount, go right for what I want, grab it, go grab the other thing I want - stop and pick up a roasting pan (full with roasting rack) for half off, even though it wasn't on my list... weave through all the roped off aisles of cosmetics to make it to the checkouts.. check out and I'm out of Target before 12:30. I felt very successful - I parked down the way from Target because as the line went, it was closer to park in a bank parking lot and jump right in line... I didn't think about the coming out part. I had 2 bags... 2 of the long Target bags, you know the super-sized ones?! Whoops... I grabbed them and left the cart, then had to make the long walk back to my car holding the bags high, so they didn't touch the ground. So, double score as I got all my items AND I got an arm workout. :-/
I then get the bright idea to go to Best Buy and get 2 of something we knew would be on sale - one for Steve and I and one as a gift for my mom... I grab the items, find the end of the line and wait.... and wait... 15 minutes and 3 weaved aisles later, I'm told the line weaves back into and through appliances, through the main aisle and weaves through all the DVD aisles... all for 2 items. They were half off, but only $50 to begin with, the same item was available on newegg for about $8.00 more. Soooooo I said EFF it... and went home, I got home shortly after 1am. I was so stressed from the Best Buy thing, that I couldn't even pour myself a glass of wine, I put on my jammies, and sat on the couch in silence.
Steve went to the Macy's downtown Minneapolis... apparently he had a short line to wait in... he got me something. Something that he says cost "a pretty penny", but he saved LOTS of money. I get it on my birthday... in 16 days! I'm pretty sure it's a new car; an Audi A3, Ibis White with a super fancy engine that gets as good a gas mileage as my Yaris does. However, he came home yesterday with it (I know because he ran upstairs to hide it)... and when I hugged him as he walked in the door... I didn't feel any cars in his pocket... so, maybe I'm wrong. Does Macy's sell cars? ;)
Don't worry, I'll let you all know what it is - probably on the 16th. Watch my facebook that day too, in case I don't get around to blogging. Ugh, I'm going to be 30!!! Steve is taking the day off so he can spend it with me! YAY!

Can it please be your birthday RIGHT NOW? I want to know what it is!!!
And maybe it's a special, new kind of car that magically gets small and fits in your pocket? How cool would that be? No more parking tickets during blog get togethers ;-)
can't wait to see what it is!!!
I could never to Black Friday because I hate crowds, but Cyber Monday is pretty cool :)
Black Friday? Hell-to-the-NO would I do that... although I thought about the midnight run to get a cheap TV but then I heard people were lining up on Thursday afternoon I let it go....
Can't wait for your birthday!
Just once did I do the whole Black Friday thing at 4am (this was a few years ago before they did midnights) and hit up a Super Target first followed by Best Buy. Target was okay, but Best Buy and their ridic line system was enough to drive me mad!! I would have left too if I were you! And okay, so it's prob not a car but Macy's has nice things so I bet it's something pretty awesome!
After doing Black Friday for a few years now I know to avoid Walmart, Target and Best Buy like the plague. I try to get everything I need at one store (Kohl's) and then this year the mall was amazing. The parking lot looked terrifying as I had to park almost on a service road- but the mall itself was DEAD. Like, where are all the people? My mom and I did awesome so I'm happy about that.
Ooooh I wanna know what it is!!
Steve told me what your present is so at least I'm not sitting here wondering what it is until the 16th. Sorry, that's mean, huh? Whatever it is, it's going to be good!
