Music Help

Ok... I need your help - if any of you are still out there.

I mentioned in my last post that we are renting speakers, lights, and a mic and doing our own playlists - now, I have a pretty nice collection of music - Steve on the other hand has either all rap or hard metal.  So... I'm just looking for a list of songs OTHER people might want to hear, besides us.

If you'd be so kind... leave a comment with a few or as many songs as you'd like, but make 'em songs you'd want to hear at a wedding, either for upbeat dancing or for slow dancing.
(Lurkers, now'd be a good time for you to chime in too (post it anonymously for all I care).)

{2000's} Tubular Tuesdays Music Linkup!

I feel like the 2000's (how else should that be said; it sounds funny to me) were so lame, with one exception - Eminem.  This post will probably be full of him, I just feel like music lost it's way during this decade.  Sure, there was a fair share of fun music, but a serious lack of true talent.

By far, my all time number 1 Eminem song is The Way I Am.  That being said, I will forever have one negative connotation that goes with it - that is: I was dating a boy when this CD came out and this song quickly became my favorite.  A fact about me; I rap - some call it good, some call it bad - I do it regardless because I'm passionate about rap music, especially if I like a song.  I digress... when this song came on in my car, I was driving, he was shotgunning (not this shotgunning, but the act of riding shotgun) and I began my passionate rap along with my favorite song.  He looked at me and busted a gut, like seriously laughing, not just a little chuckle over how cute I was.  He OBVIOUSLY was a major loser and I'm happy to report that my current boyfriend encourages me to rap and quite enjoys it.  Unfortunately for me, I always think of that moment when this song comes on - it's still my favorite though, because it's a bomb ass song.



On Em's next CD, my top pick was Superman - I tried to rap/karaoke this song on one of my birthday's.. I was already 3 sheets to the wind... it was a mild fail (as opposed to an epic one)... later that night I fell off my barstool.  Have I ever told  you that story?  Doubt it; I don't remember it happening.  I only pick this song because it has that wonderful night associated with it.



Another wonderful memory I have is driving my mom's HUGE pick-up truck down to a car show, this song came on the radio, I turned it up and started belting it from the top of my lungs - I guess I also started speeding too.. I got pulled over and got a ticket :(  I still LOVE to jam to this song!  At the time, there was no better group of women than these; Pink, Mya, Christina, Lil' Kim, and Missy - Lady Marmalade.  This also used to be my favorite song to dance to at the clubs - I was 20 when it came out, so I was big into the club scene then.



A song about shoes?  Hells to the yes!  Do you guys remember Air Force Ones?  What ever happened to Nelly anyways?  I LOVED this song - it was popular when I worked at a shoe store with my friend Pam, I remember trying to teach her the words and how to slang them up like these guys do... lol, good times!



Back when she went by Jennifer Lopez she teamed up with Ja Rule (who later proved to be a douche).. and I loved this song: I'm Real



Don't hate on me for throwing R. Kelly in the mix - at the time he was a decent enough dude.. and The Remix of Ignition was another of my club jams!


I've never likes any music that Kanye West has put out except for this one song, Gold Digger with Jamie Foxx.  It's upbeat and fun, makes me want to shake my tailfeather.

{90's} Tubular Tuesdays Music Linkup!

Man - the 90's were MY decade, not to say anyone else can't claim the same, but in terms of music... I was all over the place.  I had a tendency to buy an album and just listen to it over and over and over... something I still do today.  So trying to pick out specific songs is ... hard.

I'm going to start off with my X-rated fantasy, if I'm being honest, I discovered my sexuality at a young age, so that being said... In the 90's The Box Channel was huge (you call in and pay to play the video you wanted), every time this Madonna song came on it was the closest thing I could find to sex on TV (aka porn)... so I fell in love with it; do you remember this song/video?  After watching it now, it's pretty weird...




Next up is a sad one, but a great song, nonetheless.  Toni Braxton's Un-Break My Heart.  Watching through all these videos over these posts its funny to me how people film the videos.  She's just prancing around her house in a bra and panties with a big shirt covering her - cause obviously we all do that (shit, I would if I had her body too though!)




One of my favorite 90's albums was The Presidents of The United States of America's self titled album.  Picking one song off this album was extremely difficult.  I narrowed it down to Lump, Dune Buggy, Boll Weevil, and Kitty.  I went with the classic Kitty because it is an awesome song.  Take a listen:




Another of my favorite 90's albums is from Weezer, The Blue Album as it's more commonly known.  While I love all the songs on this disc, the one that has always been my favorite is Undone (The Sweater Song) - simply classic to me.  I scream this shit from the top of my lungs!




Another of my favorite albums from this decade is What's The Story Morning Glory? by Oasis.  I still keep this one in my car and listen to it quite a bit.  Literally every song on this album is amazing... my favorite though, without a second thought is Champagne Supernova; enjoy...




I also enjoyed the album Pieces of You by Jewel - as I began my search of the album for this post I couldn't help but feel maybe this didn't quite qualify for my tops picks of the 90's... I continued on looking at the track list and picking based on memory what I thought would be my favorite - I did my youtube search and began to listen.  So many memories flooding back to me, not to mention just her voice sends chills down my spine - this lady is talented!  Here is Near You Always by Jewel.



Moving on to En Vouge - a group who straight out ROCKED the 90's.  Funky Divas was another great album of the 90's - my favorite though, I think mostly because of the video was Giving Him Something He Can Feel... I loved those red dresses!

Everyone knows Alanis Morissette and every one knows her Jagged Little Pill  album and if you don't climb out from under your rock fool!  She recorded an acoustic version of this album a few years back and I rushed out to get it.. it's probably a bit more amazing than the studio recording.  I loved her in the 90's and she can still belt it out today!  My pick from this album is You Oughta Know
One of my favorite songs in the late 90's (while I was in high school) was Picture Me Rollin' by 2Pac.

Alright, let us round up the 90's with some crazy, sexy, cool ladies by the names of T-Box, Left Eye, and Chilli.  I remember being in middle school when this album came out and everyone loved it, including myself. creep... a classic, waterfalls.. amazing... my favorite? Red Light Special - what a bunch of freaks!

{80's} Tubular Tuesdays Music Linkup

Geez - I don't even know where to start here... While I was born in 1981, I still have LOTS of music memories and songs that I'd still, to this day, jam out to!  Debbie Gibson, Madonna, Rick Astley, Tiffany, Cyndi Lauper... oh, the 80's!

I LOVED Madonna in the 80's (and 90's and so on)... but in the 80's she had balls and wasn't afraid to discover herself and turn a few heads in the process.  I have two songs by Madonna here, Borderline and Cherish.  Two of the songs I remember most by her in the 80's.
Borderline... I LOVE this video, I loved being a little girl and watching her spray paint all over the wall!  That being said, this song was released in 1984, which would make me 3... why on Earth would I remember this AND why would I love watching her spray paint the walls.  I loved watching her get her photos taken, and I LOVED her clothes!  I know, right?!



Cherish was such a neat video to me as well... mermaids, B&W filming, not to mention how beautiful she is in this video!  I was sure this was a 90's song, but it was released in 1989, so it makes the 80's cut.  I remember singing along to every word of this song as well... from the TOP of my lungs.  I really thought I was the best singer in the world when I was little... true or not, we may never know!



Next up is probably one of my favorite 80's songs - Tainted Love by Soft Cell.  I hadn't seen this video before today, and it's fucking weird... so if you listen, close your eyes and don't watch.  I have no idea why this is my favorite 80's song other than the fact that I LOVE the way it makes me feel and it's soooo under rated.



Any little girl who grew up in the 80's fell in love with at least ONE song by Debbie Gibson... she was ALL THE RAGE!  Only In My Dreams was my favorite - though... I remember loving the entire A Side of the cassette tape (yep, I went there!)




These days, the Rick Roll is all the rage, but it's all the rage for a reason - Rick Astley was amazing for his time.  I had this tape and I'd listen to that thing OVER AND OVER... my mom still has the same tape we had in the 80's and every now and again she'll pop it in (she especially loved to play it randomly on the weekends when I still lived there) - I'm not giving you the Rick Roll song today, but rather my favorite, Together Forever.



Lastly, rounding up the 80's with his bleached torn jeans and badass leather jacket is George Michael because, seriously, who doesn't jam out with their guitar right next to the jukebox?!  Faith is one of those classic songs that you hear in random places and just start dancing - no?  just me?  crap.

{Oldies} Tubular Tuesdays Music Linkup

So, the idea of this linkup really excited me... a way to take a look through all your music and remember the times in your life that shaped who you are and the music that was playing in the background.  Krystal and Jen are hosting this Tuesday Linkup for the next several weeks, so it's not too late to join in and play along!  Each Tuesday, from today until December 6th, has a different theme.  This weeks theme is Oldies (Anything 1979 or earlier).  After putting the list together, I realize that most of my picks are slower songs.

So Oldies... I was born in 1981, so pre-1979 doesn't have any memories of the things going on in my life... but I do love me some old songs!  A couple of my favorites:
I absolutely LOVE Etta James, specifically the song At Last.  When no one is watching, I WAIL thing song at the TOP of my lungs (...and I obviously sound JUST like Ms. James, herself).  There is nothing magical about this song as far as why or how I know it - I heard it once, and fell in love; it's been one of my favorites ever since.

I think I mentioned on a different music post that I love the song Imagine by John Lennon.  It's a magical and powerful song to me.. simply put.

Anyone who says Queen isn't talented has NO idea what talent is.  I first heard this song, as I'm sure most people my age, in the movie Wayne's World, I specifically love the part where they all begin headbanging!  Anyhow, ever since then, when I hear this song, I think of that movie.  It's a great song, and it's fun!

The last song I'll list here is a faster, groovier song... it's a dance song, about a dance... a little ditty called The Locomotion.  If you don't sing along to this, you're just a party pooper!

Talent-less Ms. Perry

I hate Katy Perry.  I make no secret of this.  I think she is talent-less and annoying.

This morning I find out that she tied Michael Jackson's record for most #1 singles on the same record, at 5.  Not only does she hold the title of the first woman to do it, but she is now the only living artist to have that title. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!
We have seen some fantastically talented women vocalist in the past 10-20 years.  How is she the first, and only living to make this happen?!

At first, I'd listen to her songs and get them stuck in my head (and I'd probably dance along to them in my car)... but then it got to the point where I'm all wtf is this song, this is so stupid! and I now turn the radio off when she comes on.

Can someone help me understand this?!  I'd rather listen to Brit-Brit lip-sync or some awful rapper using auto-tune.

ugh.  that is all.

10 Day You Challenge: Two Songs

Boy, 2 songs - this ought to be hard!  I have been thinking about this one for weeks trying to come up with some song to add that would somehow fit me, a song that's impacted me, a song that has really meant something to me and my life.  I enjoy music, sometimes I don't think I'm worthy of calling myself a true music lovers because I tend to stick to the people/bands I know, and don't often seek out new or independent music. Picking just 2 songs (of all time) seems impossible, even for someone who barely knows any music..

1. Imagine - by John Lennon.  I love this song - I actually have great love for a lot of Beatles songs and works of any of the Beatles independently.  This particular song has been re-done so many times and it never seems to lose it's impact in the world.  Most song are reflective of a time; this song is reflective of a world at any given time.  It's just an amazing song; always has been, always will be.  A Classic.
2. Keep Ya Head Up - by Tupac (2Pac).  I'd say Tupac is my second favorite artist, second only to Eminem.  While I could have picked a handful of Em songs to list here I picked this Tupac song because I feel it has an extremely positive message.  If you haven't heard it, go to youtube and take a listen.  People in the 'rap game' tend to have a pretty bad rep when it comes to how they rap about females (don't get me wrong, I know Tupac is in that group as well), but this song really challenges how women are treated and why it happens and encourages everyone to keep on goin', no matter what is bringing you down.  I just really enjoy the song!  The world lost an extremely influential rapper the day Tupac was murdered.

It's seriously hard to just pick 2.

Random - Vol. 9.15

Sometimes I just want to live a day and know what to expect... but what fun would that be, right?

So this past Friday, my day off, was supposed to be spent relaxing, because afterall it is a day off, right?!  Well last week Steve had news of a death in his family, the wake was set for Friday evening and the funeral was on Saturday.  He and I were RSVP'd to a wedding on Saturday, so he decided to attend the wake Friday night... turns out the wake and funeral were being held 4 hours away.  As his girlfriend I reserve the right to be able to say that I didn't want him driving all that way alone (there and back in ~10 hours, with 8 of it being on the road) - so I imposed and told him I'd be happy to keep him company for the drive.  He agreed to let me come. :)
Well... my Friday started out fine - nothing special, just another day really.  Upon arriving at Steve's apartment around 1:45 in the afternoon I felt like I looked right at the sun... you know, where you have this annoying spot in your vision?  I traced back to the moment I got out of my car and didn't remember looking at any lights and the sun wasn't out so that couldn't be it!  I told Steve "either I looked at a light and don't remember it or I'm about to get a migraine"...
ugh.

You can guess where the story goes next -
entering a 4 hour drive I try to play it off as no big deal as far as Steve is concerned, he was mourning the death of a loved one, and I knew I'd be fine, eventually.  He knew I wasn't alright and kept asking if I was.  For about the first 30 minutes of the drive I was dealing with blind spots, then the headache set in :(
I felt nauseous and had a pretty dull annoying constant pain in my head and every now and then... just when I wasn't expecting it, there would be a super sharp intense pain shooting through my head.  My own mini-hell.
I'm absolutely 100% convinced that my migraines are menstrual  - the last migraine I got was right at the end of my cycle and this one was almost the same day, this month.  Ironic.  Unfortunately for me, they were back-to-back months.
The fortunate of this story is that the pain of it went away before we arrived at the wake.  So I was able to be a normal person around Steve's family during their time of loss.  I still suffered the 'aftershock' of my migraine the rest of the night and a little bit the next day - just those annoying pains when I'd cough, laugh, bend over, etc.  - in all and in comparison, it was one of the more mild migraines I've had, still doesn't mean it was good though.  Hopefully I won't be posting an update next month...

A few real randoms:
I had a dream about the Subway system in New York (your average dream of robots chasing you down 20 flights of stairs deep underground in the NYC Subway system...) - ever since then I can't stop thinking about New York and how badly I want to go there.  SO much to see... so much I haven't seen in my many trips there.

I'm going to see Saw 6 tomorrow night; I've heard its full of gore... not excited.
I went to Trail of Terror last Thursday; not as bad as last year, but I was pretty freaked out through the maze part of it.  This was my last year going to anything like that.

My car whistles ever since running over a dead deer.

I love my dad and I get to see him tonight!  Steve and I are going up there after work for his special and apparently wonderfully delicious ribs!  I'm so excited I'm bouncing in my seat at work :)

John Mayer's voice is amazing to me.  "Your Body is A Wonderland" could be one of the sexiest songs ever written.  I'm not late discovering it, I'm just now saying it.

Brett Favre and his Vikings found their first loss yesterday - makes me sad, but don't worry - it's not Brett's fault.

I danced my little (or big) butt off at the wedding Saturday, and I'm feeling it today.  I also got extremely drunk at the wedding on Saturday, but I felt that yesterday, so no worries!

Britney is GENIUS!

Ever since the first day I laid my sweet little eyes on Britney [Spears] and her sweet little package, I've been in love with her.  I haven't kept this a secret.
She hit a bump; I kept my interest.  She's recovered and I'm still interested.  As an example I received 3 copies of her newest CD for Christmas... it's no secret.  Embarrassing, yes, but no secret.

Now, being a little behind on the times... over this past weekend I was up North with my cousins and they asked me "Do you know what the song If You Seek Amy is about?"  I started guessing things like it being about a prostitute, about drugs... you know all the hidden meaning behind songs that I generally overlook because I either love or hate the particular song.
Finally I stopped guessing and they told me that If You Seek Amy phonetically spells out 'F-U-C-K Me' [eff you see kay me].  Those of you who have played Mad Gab should follow along easy.

There is no Amy, so stop seeking her.  A few lyrics will help you understand:

Now, the point here is not trying to fight whether the song is good or bad, because after learning this; it's fricken GREAT!
Even if you hate Brit... you have to admit that its pretty clever [even if she didn't think of it herself], it takes some balls to put yourself out there like that and chance getting your music cut from the radio. Seems some parents are trying to make that happen too.

Follow the link here to see the video.  I think there is a lot that can be read into the lyrics and the video... at the end of the video she puts on this fake image and appears to be dealing with some controversy with the poperattzi; of course it's intentional.  She knew what would come of this and I think she's saying Look, I can dress this way and portray the image parents think is right, but in the end All of the boy and all of the girls are [still] begging to if you seek Amy.  I think she's right.

Random - Vol. 8.21

Is it right to let girls be in a band/group because they are sexy if they have no talent?  Don't get me wrong, I love a sexy girl as much as the next guy, but seriously... The Pussycat Dolls were on the AMA's the other night (which I finished watching last night) and I'm not impressed with their talent as much as I was impressed with their sexy outfits!
I'm just sayin'... 
I guess the same goes for Britney.. sexy sure, but pretty much talentless.  HOWEVER, Christina... the body and the voice, that lady is pretty dope.  Never thought I'd see a day where I favored Xtina over Brit!  


Interesting Story - I heard Mischke mention it yesterday on his show (I owe a blog in dedication to him... he's one of my favorite people).

On that same site you will find Sushi, you may have assumed my love flows deep for the stuff, while I've not written about it, I do jump at every chance to try a new sushi place.  I should start writing about it!  
Anyhow, my point here is after reading the page linked to sushi I've come to discover I'm a borderline sushi snob!  I want to just express to all of you, if you have not tried sushi because you are scared to order it or scared of it in general... see me!  If you take me out to a sushi dinner I will sit there with you and explain everything I know (which is a lot, but not all), help you understand, and even order your meal for you!  I know the good things to order for a beginner... I'm that good!  I'm just saying... don't be scared, it's just another food really.


Last random topic involves you, the reader.  This is Random - Vol. 8.21, as you may or may not have noticed, in 2008 I have titled all of my random blogs this way, with the last number increasing.  Basically, you have random, which explains what the blog post is about, then you have the volume number, in this case it's 8.21, which means it's year 2008 (8) and post number 21 in that year (8.21).  I thought about continuing to post this way in 2009, so it'd be 9.1 through 9.21 [or whatever number I get up to], but I'm not sure if I really want to continue like that. 
As a reader I'm sure you don't really care how I label my posts... but in the off chance you do, I'd like to hear from you.  I'm looking for creative ways to title posts in 2009, some way that allows me to keep track of how many random blogs I've posted.  I'm not sure how to best do that, different from what I'm already doing.  Anyone have thoughts... (even if you think it's silly, it may spark something in my head... so please let me hear it)... ??

Parental Advisory: Explicit Content

You know that everything you read on the Internet is true, right?
If you don't like Rap music, I'd highly suggest not reading any further...

Tuesday night I was picked up to go to the Twins game and much to my surprise I hear some Eminem coming out of the speakers.  Dope!  As we are rollin' down, rapping along to the dopest white boy out there, I gots to thinkin'; 'Damn, I really need to make sure I have all these Eminem CD's in my car, and listen to them one by one'.  Which I have not done yet, but will hopefully do tonight - tomorrow will be a good day in the Yaris.  Then... we gots to talkin'; 'When is Dre supposed to drop his new album on us?'  Now, a couple days later I find myself still thinking about this.  Wikipedia, here I come.

Keeping in mind the first line of this blog; here are a few things I've found:
Read just the Background Portion - Dre has obviously been planning this for a long time, and from the sounds of it we may get to hear it before year end! 
In that same paragraph you'll notice mention of Eminem's album in the works, also set for release in 2008. 

Now, wikipedia can be edited by about anybody who has a clue, so really how much can you trust it?  Well, google is my friend and friends come through for one another: USA Today is talking about it, LA Times has a more in depth article.
I feel pretty confident that rap music will be blessed with some dope beats and lyrics that no longer talk about grills, money, or 'boots with the fur'.  Dre is the master of what he does and hopefully this release will help get some of these new 'rappers' either on board with what rapping should be or off the mic completely.

Moving on to Eminem, whether you love him or hate him, you HAVE to admit that boy can rap like no other.  Not only his ability to flow, but his creativity to come up with some of the most amazing lyrics and rhymes in the industry.  In case you didn't notice, I am a huge fan of his.  I love music with emotion and, when he's not being silly, Eminem has more emotion in his music than any other rapper I've heard.

I love music, most all genres, but I've found myself searching out new music because of the way rap and hip-hop have changed.  It makes me feel old saying stuff like that, my BFF and I were talking about that the other day... "Whats with all this rap music now-a-days?" we laugh, only it's not funny growing out of a genre you usually enjoy because a few punks think they can rap. 

This could be the biggest year in music if both Dre and Em come out with new stuff.  That being said, support the artists you enjoy, BUY the music, don't steal it.

7dust report

oh geez....
i don't even know where to begin... the show was amazing! First let me comment on the venue. The show was at the Myth Nightclub, my first time there, my second time seeing Sevendust (the first time I was too drunk to really remember {xfest}). So... The Myth is a pretty tight spot... lots of room, lots of good views, screens upstairs. I was actually quite impressed with the bathrooms, very clean, and everytime i went in there, there was a woman cleaning and replenishing the supplies. One thing i like in bathrooms is no garbage, this place has no papertowels, hence.. NO GARBAGE! they have the automatic hand dry machines... which suck, but at least you don't have to touch anything! I give the venue alone an A+.

on to the show... I'm so glad I wasn't drunk for this one! I have the new CD "Next", and becasue for some reason i can memorize every word to every song on a cd I like... I know all the songs. PLUS, I know all their old stuff, because I am a Sevendust TRUE fan (I don't have to act like I know, cause I do!). They played a ton of songs from the new CD and some killer picks from the past CD's, AMAZING! Lajon is beautiful, his body is impeccable, and his voice and preformance are moving. Morgan Rose is without a doubt a crazy dude... he makes playing the drums seem effortless, like it's child's play! He barely would move his body to do what he does! amazing. The show scores higher then the venue, A+++++!

There were a few kink's in the chain of events last night.... I got felt up by some dude, thought I was going to get beat down by some big dude (for talking shit), and I thought Rich was going to die when I seen him come out of the 'pit'.
once he didn't die, I came to realize he lost his phone because someone called me from it (and left a message). What a great thing for someone to do, she finds a phone, calls the last number dialed and tells me she is leaving the phone at the bar and it is now my responsability to make sure it gets to the owner. We left after I told him where to get his phone, so hopefully he got it!

All I can say is; if you have never seen Sevendust, you need to see them. You missed a great show last night.
For those that read this that attended last nights show... Amazing, wasnt it? It was so nice to see so many friends (some fellow myspacers)... great music, great company, an all around great time.
I can't wait for the next show... I almost feel like I should attend a show on the road, that'd be sweet!

i didn't get any sleep last night because I didn't get home until almost 1am, and i had to be up at 6:30am... today is long!

SEVENDUST!

I just wanted to share with everyone my excitment for tonight! i really can't keep it in... though i have to becuase i am working!

i can't wait, i'm so excited... i am still debating taking my camera. my camera is wicked expensive, and if anything happened to it, i'd be sooooo pissed, and usually concerts aren't the best place to bring a camera... but i just might bring it out tonight... we'll see.
