TFT: To Pledge or Not To Pledge

I used to like Oprah.......... until I started watching her show.  I realized she is just an annoying woman who interrupts everyone that comes on her show.  Back in my days blogging on myspace I once wrote a blog about how much I hate her.  I'm not here to do that again.

Today I am here because I'm in a bit of a pickle.  Oprah has this "No Phone Zone" pledge - which basically gives you the option, should you choose to take it, of pledging to make your car a) free of texting while driving b) free of texting and only using a hands-free device while driving or c) free of both texting and phone; you commit to pulling over to a safe location if you want to do either.
My confession: I text while I drive.  I also talk on my phone while I drive, which I don't think is nearly as bad.
My thoughts: This pledge is a fantastic idea!
My pickle: I hate Oprah and I don't want to support anything that she promotes or [probably] gets money from, but I want to pledge to do this. Somehow in my feeble little mind I feel like committing by actually filling out a pledge form would make it more 'real' thus being more likely to follow through with it.

So for now, I'm just thinking about it, meanwhile trying to cut {way} down on texting while driving.

Since it's Thursday, let's turn this into a TFTThoughts for Thursday: Do you text while you drive?  If not, have you made the conscious effort to not?  If so, have you ever thought of stopping?  If you hated Oprah like I do, would you just suck it up and sign this pledge or stand your ground and try to do it on your own?

{ps. I've thought about removing the "Oprah" label from my blog many times being that I only had one post that used it... but now I have to keep it - I'm not sure how I feel about that}

I will admit to texting while I drive and talking on the phone while I drive. Both are bad although I find talking on the phone isn't as bad as the texting.

Although I too hate Oprah (and Dustin's whole fam thinks she's trying to take over the world) I think that this is still a really great idea. Even obnoxious people can have good ideas every now and again, right?

I have no car, so I am free of guilt!!

Don't give Oprah any money! I say no pledge, just stop doing it haha

I like Oprah only because we share a last name that almost nobody else has. :)

Talking on the phone while driving is illegal here, so I don't really do that. I will admit to occasionally texting while driving.. BUT. Recently I haven't been doing it at all, because of several close encounters that had I been texting, I would have gotten in an accident. It's kind of eye opening. Those couple of seconds that your attention is on your phone instead of the road can change everything.

I definitely text and drive, although I have gotten better about it since the Oprah craze/pledge (I despise her as well, but I am from Chicago so it's difficult to avoid her!).

I have NEVER in my life texted while driving (HELLO!!) Nothing is worth texting and getting in an accident over. Plus it is annoying as hell to drive near anyone who is texting on their phone (usually teenagers). That straight up makes me so mad!!! Please don't do it anymore, Ang. I would hate for something to happen to you on the road because of it. I hope you take this pledge!!

i dont use my phone at all while driving, but im a very paranoid driver.

if you think your grudge against oprah is more important than your personal safety, by all means forget about the pledge.

I also share your distaste for Oprah but I like the pledge. Don't even think about her, just do the pledge not only because it's safer, but because it's against the law to text in MN. I do not text and drive and but I did it very occasionally before the law went into effect. I saw a HORRIBLE picture of a car accident that happened after a guy was texting on the phone. He was decapitated and whether or not he was truly texting before the accident, it was a reminder of what can happen on the roads. M and I talk almost daily about how annoyed we are when we see someone texting because they are not paying attention to the road, even though they think they might be.
