TFT: To Pledge or Not To Pledge

I used to like Oprah.......... until I started watching her show.  I realized she is just an annoying woman who interrupts everyone that comes on her show.  Back in my days blogging on myspace I once wrote a blog about how much I hate her.  I'm not here to do that again.

Today I am here because I'm in a bit of a pickle.  Oprah has this "No Phone Zone" pledge - which basically gives you the option, should you choose to take it, of pledging to make your car a) free of texting while driving b) free of texting and only using a hands-free device while driving or c) free of both texting and phone; you commit to pulling over to a safe location if you want to do either.
My confession: I text while I drive.  I also talk on my phone while I drive, which I don't think is nearly as bad.
My thoughts: This pledge is a fantastic idea!
My pickle: I hate Oprah and I don't want to support anything that she promotes or [probably] gets money from, but I want to pledge to do this. Somehow in my feeble little mind I feel like committing by actually filling out a pledge form would make it more 'real' thus being more likely to follow through with it.

So for now, I'm just thinking about it, meanwhile trying to cut {way} down on texting while driving.

Since it's Thursday, let's turn this into a TFT, Thoughts for Thursday: Do you text while you drive?  If not, have you made the conscious effort to not?  If so, have you ever thought of stopping?  If you hated Oprah like I do, would you just suck it up and sign this pledge or stand your ground and try to do it on your own?

{ps. I've thought about removing the "Oprah" label from my blog many times being that I only had one post that used it... but now I have to keep it - I'm not sure how I feel about that}

TFT: Who would you call?

Yesterday morning, on my drive to work, I heard this Kris Allen song (I didn't know it was Kris Allen {whoever he is} until I looked it up at the office) - it's called "Live Like We're Dying".  Somewheres in the song he spits the lyrics:
And if your plane fell out of the skies
Who would you call with your last goodbye?

It got me thinking... who would I call?
So my question, my Thoughts For Thursday, is: You have time for one goodbye... who do you call?

Thoughts For Thursdsay: Saying I Love You

Let's just talk about family here; I think this will be short and sweet.
There is that song by Garth Brooks, I think I mentioned in another post once upon a time... If Tomorrow Never Comes, words are so true.  If you died today, would the people around you know how you felt about them?  Would you even care?

I've grown up my entire life telling my family I love you, so it comes very naturally when I have to say it.  I was driving home yesterday thinking about traditions and things you say and how they become so 'normal' that you don't really think about it after awhile, like the words I love you... I've said them my whole life to my mom and dad, but they've become so normal that I don't really think about what I'm saying - hell, I've even shortened it to just Love you or Love you too.  Is that okay?  Does it take away from what I mean?  I don't think it does.. maybe though.
Then sometimes you have a lost tradition that you recall and it just makes you warm.  When I was little our bedtime saying was "Night, love you, see you in the morning, see you tomorrow".  It actually brings a tear to my eye thinking about how that has been lost in time.  I don't know if it happened when my dad left, or if it was gone before that... wait, this is kind of off-topic.

My point is, telling my family that I love them is one of the most important things I do in my life.  I want them to hear it each and every time we talk or see each other and I love to hear it back!  I feel though, that this is not the case with everyone - sure you want them to know it, but do you say it?  Have you always said it?  Is it easy to say?  Or maybe it's just not important to you?  Maybe you feel you show your family they are loved in another way?
What about the flip side; does your family say it to you?  Is it important for you to hear it?

So, my {summed up} Thoughts for Thursday are this:  Do you say "I love you" to your family?  Does saying it come easy or is it difficult for you?  Is it important to you that you say it and that it's said back to you?  Why or why not?  Feel free to share any other thoughts surrounding the topic... I'm all ears!

(btw, don't you just LOVE my new sign off?!  I'm pretty sure it's the best addition to my blog yet.)
...until we meet again...

TFT: Surfing at Work

This week has been pretty slow at work for me... so I've had a lot of time to surf the web - hell, even in a normal week I have a lot of time to surf.  I sit at a desk and when my workload gets to be overwhelming or just when I need a break from the bump and grind... I jump online and play for a bit.  I usually start with Facebook, just to see if anything interesting is going on there then I find myself '6 degrees of separation' style far away from where I started and not even sure why I came to Facebook in the first place.  It's a true addiction of mine.

At any given time I have up to 7+ people I am poking, constantly getting notified that someone else commented on something I liked or something I commented on, playing around in the few applications I use (for blogging mostly), checking my groups for activity, reading my fan pages, saying hello to people I haven't seen for a long time, looking through suggestions of friends and wondering how/why Facebook would think I know this person, reading links people post, reading the help sections, and playing with privacy settings.

If I'm lucky enough to make it past Facebook onto other sites, a few of my favorites are:
People of Walmart - Check it out, no need for explanation.
Stuff White People Like - The satire of this site is spot on.  Makes me proud to be White :)
F My Life - While I know {or believe} some of these stories are completely made up, I can't help but laugh at them all.  If they are real, they are great... if they are fake, someone took the time to think it up and it's still pretty funny/sad.
A site that is pretty new to me but absolutely HILARIOUS is: Awkward Family Photos
I also spend a lot of time looking at photography, reading photography websites, cooking sites and recipes.

BTW - I do read news sometimes too... it's not all fun and games! :)

So TFT to you: How much time in an average work day do you spend surfing?  What are some of your favorite sites?  Are you as addicted to Facebook as I am?

Thoughts For Thursday: Mr. Yuk

Why'd they ever stop making Mr. Yuk stickers?  Everyone reading this HAS to remember Mr. Yuk, right?
Well... HOLD THE PHONE...
Turns out, after doing a fancy little Google search for Mr. Yuk - it appears he is still fully functional!
WAA-HOO!

Looks like you can get the stickers here - I think the entire concept of Mr. Yuk is great, teach kids to stay away from this little guy and save them from trouble!

Do you remember Mr. Yuk?  What do you think of the whole 'campaign'?

Hey, it's Thursday, this started out as a random blog, but it's kind of a TFT, isn't it?!

TFT: Parents on Facebook

Seems everyone is talking about it... so I'm curious what people think about it.
A few months back I had a friend request from my mother... I denied within seconds.  After discussing it with her and telling her there was no way it would happen she said "I didn't even know I sent the request, it brought up people I might know from my email addresses and the next thing I know it says it's send a request to everyone."  Fine.  I understand the confusion of Facebook off the bat, hell I was completely clueless when I first signed up as I was an avid Myspacer.  Now Facebook is all the rage and I much prefer it to Myspace, even though I still dislike 'the new Facebook'... I digress.
So she didn't mean to send the request knowing full well I wouldn't accept - wonderful, no harm, no foul.  The next day I see a friend request from my aunt... Crap.  I talk to my cousin and we panic together about our mom's being on Facebook and what the hell should we do?!  I leave the request open for my aunt so I can ponder.

I spent quite some time on Facebook learning about Friend Lists and how I could make them work to my advantage in this situation.  Turns out you can really get specific and make everything how you want it for specific people.  Awesome!  I make some changes (and block a bunch of my current 'friends' from seeing shit they have no business seeing) and then I accept my aunts request.  Done.

Now... I'm seeing everyone's mothers on Facebook, and some dad's too!  I guess the saying everyone and their mom is fitting for who is using Facebook these days.  I know specifically my mom and aunt are not signing up to 'check up' on me, but it's still strange.  I'm not one to post picture of myself doing something illegal or stupid, but it's still strange.  My life is not super private, but it's still strange.  As you may know from reading my blog or by knowing me personally... my mom is one person I do not like in my business.

Anyhow - my mom 'accidentally' sent me another friend request the other week... only this time I was prepared for it.  I added her to a list and we're all good!

So...Thoughts For Thursday for today is: Have your parents joined; either one or both?  Did you accept and if so, did you add them to a friend list and restrict what they can see?  If you denied, why did you?  Did you discuss it with them?  I'd love to hear any stories you have and get your thoughts on it if you haven't run into the situation yet.
Now it's your turn...  GO!

TFT: Response Time

I had a HR meeting this morning to go to, in place of Jayne because she is out on vacation, and just before I left I got to thinking about how I'm going to be away from my computer for an hour... which lead me to thoughts about  replying to emails and such.  My thoughts kind of exploded from there and it made me wonder what peoples expectations are in response time; for email, text, phone calls, etc.

So this TFT is more just out of curiosity... I don't even know what I expect!

So, Thoughts For Thursday:
You send someone an email; how long before you expect a reply?
You text someone; do you automatically expect a person to reply right away because most people have their phones near them a lot of the time?
You leave a voice mail and ask for a call back; how long before you call them again because you haven't heard from them?

I'm sure there are different expectations for each form of communication; what are yours?

TFT: Channel Surfing

I feel like I start out a lot of my TFT's by saying: Today's TFT is simple.
In order to carry on that tradition: Today's TFT is simple.
No really, it is.

Here is the deal, I'm curious.  My thoughts apply to different types of media.
Let's say you are having a lazy evening; you're at home watching TV [your favorite sitcom, sports, a movie on cable, etc.] live, nothing recorded on DVR and a commercial comes on; do you change the channel or do you sit though them?  Now granted you'd ffwd. right through anything if you were on DVR, but when it's live you have options.

Here is my thing, I sit through commercials.  I wold rather watch them then take a chance in missing something that I'm watching, especially because sitcoms and movies have a story line and sports... well, you just can't miss part of the game due to channel surfing!
I'm finding that a lot of people I know are big time channel surfers.

As mentioned above, this applies to different media; let's talk radio.  It's funny... most people listen to CD's or iPods now-a-days, I don't even know if this will apply.
So, you're listening to the radio, let's go... your favorite morning talk show... they take a break from talking to play some ads for you... do you change the station right away or do you deal with it so you don't miss the segment coming up?
Me?  I wait it out.  I just don't care enough to change the station.  I listen to the KQ Morning Show, and there really is no point in my listening to some other show for 5 minutes during commercial breaks.  I don't know the people so what's the point.
Now... radio during the day, if a commercial comes on I may be more inclined to change the station.  You have a much better chance of finding music you like while they have their break.

It doesn't bother me when people do it... I just don't get it because I don't.

I'm also curious if you people find that channel surfing tends to be a male vs. female thing.  Does one sex do it more than the other?

It's kind of a silly topic - but what do you do?!

+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

So... Thoughts for Thursday:  Do you channel surf?  Why or why not?  Do you know people who do?  Does it bother you if people do?  Do you think channel surfing is a battle of the sexes?  Any other thoughts or opinions on the topic?

IF anyone posts a TFT today, I'll link it here (seems TFT is falling by the wayside)

TFT: Can, Bottle, or Tap

This could be the single most important TFT I will ever write.

As a woman in her late 20's [ugh], I find myself drinking alcohol quite frequently.  I think this is normal; I drink with my friends and, occasionally, I will have a glass of wine at home by myself.  There is no one thing I drink all the time... hell, look at the url for my blog [dirty martinis and a bottle of wine] - obviously I drink dirty martinis and wine.  I often times find myself ordering a margarita [on the rocks with salt], shots are quite regular on the weekends, but more than anything I find myself drinking beer.  Plain old delicious beer.

I'm a huge fan of Grain Belt Premium - which is produced locally here in Minnesota.  Other times I drink Miller Lite or Bud Lite.... I'm not picky, but I don't drink dark beer.
So, when I'm out at the bar the beer comes from a tap.  If I'm at a friends I'll pick up a case of cans.  A lot of places do not offer Premium on tap, so it'll come from a bottle.  I'm fine with most any of those options.... but I do have a preference, much like any person would.
This also applies to soda - you can get a 20 oz. bottle of Mt. Dew or you can get a 12 oz. can of Mt. Dew... of course there is also Mt. Dew from a tap that you'd find at McDonalds or Burger King... or wherever has 'taps'.

My main focus of beverage here is alcohol because I rarely drink soda, so I just don't feel it applies [to me].

What a silly topic... the more I type the sillier it seems to me. :)

If given the option I would take beer [or soda] in a can over anything else.  I don't know what it is about the can, but the flavor is so much better to me.  I used to HATE beer from a tap... ugh, it was just awful to me!  I drink it now and I guess it's fine [generally cheaper], so I drink it.  A bottle is good and does the trick... but it's just a container.
I love the can; maybe I like the taste of aluminum?

Thoughts for Thursday: Don't think too hard here... just go with what feels natural and what you like best.
Which do you prefer and why; Can, Bottle, or Tap [for anything you drink]?

Thoughts for Thursday - People Watching... YOU!

We all know what people watching is, right?  Personally, it's one of my favorite things to do, someone told me the other week that I enjoy people watching more than anyone they've ever met.  I can't help it... people are strange and generally they make me laugh pretty hard [which is not hard as I laugh at everything, I guess]!
I love [LOVE] to see people fall... assuming it's not a nice little old person.  I think it's funny how many people pick their nose in their cars.  Interaction between people is also very fun for me to watch... especially parents with their kids.

I was sitting at the airport last weekend, in Seattle, and I was watching this lady eat soup out of a bread bowl while she was reading.  This woman would scoop up some soup and wipe the bottom of the spoon on the edge of the bread bowl about 7 times before she'd eat it.  It made me laugh... she was, obviously, into her book and didn't realize she was doing it... but the bottom of the spoon was clean after the first wipe!

Shortly thereafter I found myself doing one of the silliest things I've probably ever done in public - which is more what this blog is about... People watching YOU.
I was in a deep text message conversation with Steve, talking about what size shirt I wear [yeah, that's right], I was wearing my Joe Mauer Twins T-shirt which I was sure was a youth size shirt... and I was pretty sure it was a Medium or Large.  So here I am at a sports bar in the Seattle airport, I have a French Dip and a beer in front of me [which I am woofing down], and I am pulling on the back of my shirt and twisting my head in both directions to try and read what the size is!  On top of all that, I end up using my phone to take a picture because I couldn't make it out.  Apparently I'm not very good at aiming my camera on the back of my shirt, so I had to take like 3 pictures until one showed what I was looking for (it was an XL, btw).

Now imagine you are an avid people watcher and you see me doing this!  I completely stopped what I was doing, laughed [literally, out loud], and took a big swig of beer!  I looked around and it sure didn't look like anyone was watching me, but I also know I turn my head pretty quick when I think someone is about to catch me watching them!
It got me thinking pretty hard about the things I do in my life and in public... I wonder what people see!?  I am now officially paranoid about EVERYTHING I do [J/K] and am never stepping foot in public again [J/K].

So... Thoughts for Thursday ~
Have you ever found yourself in public doing something odd that someone watching you might laugh about?  Do you ever think about the way you come across to someone who might be watching?  Maybe someone catches you checking out your reflection in the store window as you walk [or drive] by and thinks you are extremely vain.  Maybe you scratch an itch in an inappropriate place and someone thinks you're a filthy pig.  Have you ever slipped down almost an entire flight of stairs at, say, a sporting arena?  When was the last time you stopped to think about what you're doing and if people are watching?!
Also, not exactly the point of this blog but, do you enjoy people watching?  Any good stories?

Thoughts for Thursday - Poop

I'm so curious to see the reaction I get from this!

Yes kids, that's right - today we are going to talk about poop.  You obviously know what it is, generally speaking, but about 75% of your average poop is water, which of course varies from person to person. In case you want to read more, here is a link with more information than you can imagine [it even touches on the mystery of corn poop, ERIN!].

It seems like such a taboo topic, poop, but every one does it; it's natural.  You see all these commercials now-a-days for yogurt that is packed with Bifidus Regularis to help promote a healthy digestive tract aka make you 'regular' aka poop.
It makes me wonder what the hell is going on with people that they have to eat yogurt regularly just to poop!?

Surely I understand that people eat like crap {no pun intended} in today's world and their pooping schedule is greatly affected by that.  Fine, eat the yogurt if you must.
For those of you who are regular, good for you and keep up the good work [healthy diet, regular exercise, etc]!

So what is regular?  I've done some searching on the Google and there is a WIDE range of opinion on what is normal.  Some people say 3-4 times a day [within 2-3 hours of each meal], others say a few times a week, but the consensus is at least once a day is ideal.

Generally in my TFT's I speak about myself on a given topic... same holds true for this one, but I won't go into great detail.  I poop, yes - no surprise there, because remember, everybody's doing it.  I consider myself to be regular, regular for me anyhow.  I'll tell ya what though, with my new exploration of spicy foods, I'm a bit worried about how regular will feel in the future [my friends talk].
It's funny how eating/drinking different things can have such an impact on my pooping life.

One of the many unfortunate traits I get from my father is my extremely sensitive stomach, I can get a stomach ache at any give moment.  I've learned, though, what I can and cannot eat to avoid tummy aches.  Fast food is one thing I cannot eat and feel fine afterwards - which is pretty much a good thing because I shouldn't be eating that crap {no pun} anyhow.

I don't expect a slew of comments on this one [and those that do comment, feel free to go anonymous], but...
Thoughts for Thursday: Do you consider yourself to be regular?  Feel free to give me any crappy stories you may have about poop or pooping.  Tell me how often you poop or if you have problems pooping.  Tell me anything!  LET'S TALK ABOUT POOP!  Most importantly; why do you think poop is such a embarrassing topic for many people?

I'm going to be out of town all weekend, so I don't imagine I'll link to any other TFT's... but I will if they are posted right away in the am.

Thoughts for Thursday - Eye Candy

eye candy

n. Informal
Someone or something that is visually attractive or pleasing to look at

In my life I have had several people who have been eye candy for me.  It's never Oh my God, I want to love him forever, but just a very casual Oh my God, I could look at him forever!  Hell [no surprise here], there are several women who are eye candy for me.

Last night I went to see my Chiropractor and ... well, he is most definitely eye candy for me; not only does he make me feel amazing, but he is amazing to look at!  He may be more than eye candy though, cause I could probably love him forever; that's a blog of a different color though.

So thinking back in my life I have now and have had lots of guys I just love to look at.  I remember going to Skywind shows with Erin and we'd both be all OMG, Wally is so hot!  Turns out there was more than eye candy sitting just behind him.  The point being he was something nice to look at, nothing more.
There is a server at B-dubs that I could just eat up!  Makes me really love walking into that place!

There may even be a few of you on my friends list [MS and FB] that are eye candy for me; male or female ;)
(Of course, there is also myself... mirrors are my best friend)
Also celebrities; there is lots of celebrity eye candy; Joe Mauer, Matt Damon, Channing Tatum, etc.

There used to be this one guy who was eye candy for almost my entire teenage life... then I grew up, found him, went on a date with him and destroyed my fantasy forever!  That's why it's best to keep it at eye candy and nothing more!
Matter of fact, I think I'll just keep updating this list as I think of more of my eye candy... I know there is a lot out there!

Today's TFT is wicked simple and involves very little thought from you, the reader.  Everyone can play along because everyone has eye candy!

-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Who is your eye candy aside from your SO... someone you just like to look at and really want nothing else from?!  Is there at a hottie at the grocery store?  Do you have a hot co-worker?  Maybe you run into someone at the gym?  Tell me about your celeb eye candy too!  It can be anyone...

Thoughts For Thursday - Buying Generic

After reading Dana's TFT last week about being thrifty and myself trying to find ways to cut some costs in my life... I've come to the conclusion that there are some things that you can't go cheap on.  From food to appliances to clothing.

There isn't really much to say about why other than the fact that cheap generally equals poor quality.  Some things are fine to buy generic... others, not so much.
I'd like to try and get a list going here of things you've found you cannot go cheap on; my input:
  • Sheets
  • Knives
  • Cheese
  • Chex Mix
  • Imitation Crab Meat
  • Plastic Wrap (Saran Wrap)
  • Dish Soap
  • Mt. Dew

I'll add more as they come to me... I'm drawing a complete blank all of the sudden!
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
My TFT for you today is: What things do you refuse to buy generic and why?

Thoughts For Thursday - Excercise

Today class, we are going to talk about exercise.  We all know that exercise is good for you, for many reasons: heart health, core strengthening, muscle toning, weight loss, and overall well being.
I'm lacking motivation.  Ideally I would go to the gym 4 times a week; Monday through Thursday after work.  In all honesty, what is there to do after work on a work night?  Why not stop at the gym on the way home, get in a long [or short] workout and feel good about yourself.
I swear I'm the master at coming up with lame excuses for skipping the gym.  Thing is... once I get into a routine, of even like a week, I'm back in it full strength and make it there at least 2-3 times a week.  I'm having a hard time getting that one or two solid weeks in to develop the routine.  The other night I told myself I was skipping the gym, but that I'd go home and do this, that, and the other thing to remain active and [sort of] compensate for not going; last night it was Wii Sports [boxing specifically].
I actually have a lot going on this week because I'm house sitting for a week starting Saturday and I really won't be close enough to stop home if I need something.  So I've been doing laundry and preparing for that,   trying to do some mid-winter cleaning of our crawl space... and on top of those things, I've been extremely tired this entire week because a certain person insists on keeping me up past my bedtime of 9:00pm.

So, at the house I'll be at there is a Wii, so happens there is also Wii Fit, which I have no idea how to use, but plan to use it everyday, since there is not one of my gyms near by.  There is also a treadmill and a Bowflex that I can use if the Wii Fit isn't rocking my world.  I'm hoping that I'll have the motivation since I'll really have nothing else going on.

I want to be in shape, I want to look good, I want to feel comfortable in my body... I'm just having a hard time getting there once the end of the day rolls around.

So... Thoughts for Thursday: Do you workout?  How often?  What types of things do you do?  What motivates you when you're feeling lazy?  I need help here people... I need motivation!  I'm also curious what things you've found that work for you and for what areas of your body they help?
If you don't exercise, why don't you?

TFT - How Do YOU Use Facebook

After posting the other day [simply] admitting my complete obsession with Facebook and after posting this morning on Dana's blog admitting Facebook as one of my Vices... I've decided maybe it's something I need to talk about.

I found a list of the Top 100 Blog Topics this morning while trying to come up with a TFT for today.  You see, my plan was to blog vices... but Dana apparently jumped into my head and stole the idea. ;)  Upon looking at this list thinking, not only is this a good list to keep around for future thought provoking blogs, I thought Isn't it extremely ironic that Facebook is the number one topic, especially on a blog dated in 2007.  I had to roll with it.

I've come to discover a deep love for Facebook as of late, not only does the 'stalker feed' make it easy to keep up with people on a per second basis, I find myself using it to actually stalk!  LOL... I'm a stalker (like thats news)!
I have connected with many people from my past through Facebook and, while I enjoy most of the reconnection, there are a few people I'd rather not be friends with on there.  Did you know that you can go to the bottom of your stalker page and edit the settings?  You can actually go there and add names to a 'More About/Less About' list, which in turn tells you more/less about the person you add to the list.
Sometimes I get a friend request from someone from... say High School... and I don't remember that person at all, but they obviously remember me.  So I figure Okay fine, I'll add you but you're going on my Less About list [I know, I'm shallow].  That way I'm not offending anyone by ignoring their request.

I love the tagging of photos on Facebook and think it's one of the best ideas to come along in forever.  What I'd like to see in the future: A way for Person A to make an album and have Person B, Person C, and Person D have the ability to upload pictures to it... and have it show up on all 4 peoples pages.  As you know, I do photo shoots with my cousins pretty much every time we are together (sometimes we end up with pictures on 3 different cameras); it would be DOPE if we could all put our pictures into one album... so much easier!

I have a poking war with like 7 people and, even though I have no idea what the point of it is, I quite enjoy it!

I hate pretty much all things apps and I've recently learned how to block either a) the app itself or b) the specific person from sending ap requests.  Those are great features because being that my name starts with an A, I get them all the time from being on the top of everyone's lists!  Hooray for blocking!  I have yet to block a person from sending them, but I'm getting close!

I absolutely LOVE the fact that you cannot search people by location or age or anything of the sort like you can on myspace.  It really helps with the weirdos out there.  If you want to find me... you have to know me!
In addition to that, the privacy settings are much better than myspace.  You can set it so that no one can even click your name if you don't want them to... or tweak it so they can click your name but can't see your profile or send you a friend request; you can get very specific.

I love and hate that you are notified when someone else comments on your friends stuff if you've commented on it first.  It can be annoying, but it's also helpful if you comment on a photo and your friend comments as well.

Oh really Ang... this is getting way to long for a post about a networking site.... I'm done.  Find me on Facebook if we aren't already friends... maybe I'll add you to my More About list ;)

TFT - Movies: Home or Theater

I watched Tropic Thunder last night at my house and, during the many times I lost interest and stopped paying attention, I got thinking about how a.) I was extremely happy that I didn't waste my money to go see it in the theater and b.) How small my mom's TV is compared to that of the 'big screen' and maybe I'd have enjoyed the movie a bit more on a larger screen.

Throughout the movie my mom and I would talk, I could lay on the couch in my hoodie with my blanket, pillow, and my cat... there are certain comforts that you have while watching a film in familiar surroundings.
At a theater you have a huge screen, huge noise, and buttery popcorn that you can never get quite right at home. The action is more intense, the landscape is generally more beautiful, and the sound effects are surrounding you.  You can't lay down in a theater though...

My thoughts today sound simple and are not deep, but they do require some thought: Which is better: Movies at home or movies in a theater?
As stated above, both have pros and both have cons.  Its easy to say it depends on my mood or something of the sort... but that's taking the easy way out, look at the big picture (no pun intended).

I enjoy being able to talk about something during a movie, I enjoy having the ability to go back to watch a part over if you missed something or if something is really funny, I enjoy being able to pause when I have to pee.
Overall, while I love the intensity of the big screen, I much prefer watching a movie cozy on my couch with a glass of wine.

So, Thoughts for Thursday (put some thought into this one): Where do you prefer watching a movie... and tell me why?!

Thoughts For Thursday- Guilty Pleasures

Today is simple because I can't think of much to say (Hold the phone... yes, I have nothing to say!!)
It's not deep or meaningful ... simple, but guilty, pleasures in life.

Last night, as I was sitting on my couch enjoying the American Idol auditions with a friend [who is fully against watching the show], I was so excited that this time of year was upon us.
The auditions are the best part of the show, rightfully so too, they edit them just for people like me.  I've watched one full season of AI because there was a hot chick on there that I wanted to continue to watch; it pretty much sucked.
I know deep down that when I tell people that I've watched or that I'm going to watch, I should be embarrassed... but its my guilty pleasure.  It's been on 2 nights so far and they have 6 more cities to visit; 8 nights of 2 hours of guilty pleasure in 1 year, I'm not doing so bad.

It also got me thinking... what else do I consider to be a guilty pleasure of mine?

  • Friday - I never work on Fridays, most people would use a day off to get things done... and sometimes I do, but most of the time I treat it as what it is; a day off.  I use my day to do absolutely nothing, I watch TV, I take naps, I make myself good coffee and good breakfast, I cuddle with my cat... I do all the things I want; it's my day.
  • Comfy pajama pants - I own way too many pairs of comfy pants, one pair has Tinkerbell on them, but they are so soft!  I will go into a clothing store and not buy anything but a pair of comfy pajama pants.  Generally when I get home from work, I change into them right away.
  • Chocolate - ever since I started drinking coffee I've learn to enjoy a piece of chocolate every now and again.  You may be surprised to know that I'm not a fan of sweets [give me salt any day though], but I've learned that chocolate and coffee are such a great combination together; I now keep a jar of chocolate on my desk at work to enjoy a piece anytime I want.
  • Sushi - it should be no surprise to you at this point that I love the stuff; it's not cheap.  I try to treat myself to a dinner of it once every couple months.  I have no qualms with going to a sushi dinner alone, sometimes I prefer it alone, which brings me to my next guilty pleasure...
  • Alone time - I take full advantage of my alone time.  I never feel guilty because I'm being lazy, I don't care if I have nothing to do... every person would be a lot happier if they spent some time alone.  I highly recommend finding the time for yourself; stop trying to please people, it's okay to say no to plans.  Find time for you!
So, Thoughts for Thursday... What is your guilty pleasure?  Do you have more than one?  If you have none, why don't you?  It can be anything you want, from trashy romance novels to TV shows, from food to movies, from music to alcohol, from video games to silly things you do... anything!

TFT: Remaining Friends With Your Friends Ex

Kind of a silly title.

Let me give you a fictional situation: My friend Phillip is dating Sarah.  Sarah and I end up growing to be friends because I'm such good friends with Phillip and we all hang out together.  Phillip and Sarah break up.  Is it okay for me to remain friends with Sarah?  Phillip and I were friends first, and we are better friends, but Sarah and I get along and have a lot in common.  I don't want to hurt Phillip by hanging out with Sarah and I certainly wouldn't bring Sarah around if I were hanging out with Phillip...What is the right and wrong here?

Now, on a non-fiction note, I have been in this situation before.  I have friends on myspace/facebook who are my friends' ex's, we don't really hang out ever, but we are friends.

What if the situation arose one day where the ex called me and wanted to hang out; would that be okay?  I've also been in the situation where I wanted nothing to do with the ex and end all ties.  It's always been curious to me if people do this - or how people handle the situation.

This isn't a very insightful TFT, but more just me being curious what other people think about it.
So... getting back into the TFT Tradition... Do you think it's right to remain friends with an ex of your friend?  Have you done it?  Did good or bad come of it?  Did your friend know?  If you haven't done it, why not?  Just looking for general thoughts here ... ...

Thoughts For Thursday - Pink Sports Apparel

Today my Thoughts for Thursday is going to be more of a rant... and feel more than free to add your two cents (whether you agree or disagree with me) at the end.

Vikings colors are Purple/Gold/White, Twins colors are Red/White/Blue, Wild colors are Red/Green/Wheat/Gold, Timberwolves colors are Blue/Black/Silver/Green/White; those are the major sports teams in Minnesota.
My question is simple... why is it, when I go to games, I see girls wearing Pink sports apparel?  From the above mentions team colors no where did I list Pink.. I can't think of a single major sports team with the color Pink; can you?  I can surely understand if you are wearing a pink shirt with no team logo on it or something saying you support breast cancer research... hell, I support it and I have NOTHING against the color pink; I love the color Pink.  My teams were not founded on the color Pink though, therefore you should not be wearing it.
My theory is: the girls who do wear it are not real fans.  If you were a true Vikings fan you'd bleed Purple; I do.  If you really loved Joe Mauer (and his lips) you'd wear his shirt in blue; I do.
Here is a whole website with Pink sports merch.  Some pictures I found of pink crap:

All that being said, this is the only jersey that deserves to be Pink ('cause Brett's a bitch):

On a separate note: TJack will be playing this Sunday and I am full of HOPE!  SKOL VIKINGS!!!  I'm sure I'll be watching with a hangover...

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Thoughts For Thursday - Amazing Gifts

With the holiday season upon us and everyone [but me] in the mood to shop, I find myself trying to come up with creative ideas for people.  This post is not about that so much as it is about an amazing gift I received last year around this time.

Once upon a time I met this unemployed guy named Steve, at the time I was also unemployed, so we had that in common.  We'd give each other shit for still being unemployed when we'd see one another and somehow we ended up being pretty great friends...
One day last year some time we were at the bar and decided to do some shots.  I'm not a big shot taker and Steve is a huge enabler; I gave in and agreed to do the damn shot.  Since Patron was not an option the waitress suggested Sauza Hornitos (be sure to click on that link and check out the bottle) - we kind of liked it - a lot.  The problem of the future became trying to remember what the hell this tequila was called.  We nicknamed it Swayze, cause it was close to the name and who doesn't love Patrick Swayze!?  Honestly.
Fast Forward through a whole summer and autumn of calling it Swayze and slowly learning the real name....

Steve starts telling me about this thing he is making for me... you see, Steve is a self taught genius in Photoshop and had big ideas!  I go for about a month having no idea what this could be and begin to grow anxious... finally one day he tells me it's ready and he's coming over to give it to me.  He gets to my house and has something wrapped in a brown paper bag...
I apprehensively open it... to find this:
(let me tell you how hard it is to get a good picture of a label)
Pretty fucking dope, huh?!  The back of the bottle was impossible to get a picture of and the words are absolutely hilarious.. so here you go (make sure you click on the image to enlarge it... you must read the words):
I'm pretty sure this is the most amazing gift I have ever received; it took thought, creativity, and time!  I still have the full bottle sitting on display, but I'm thinking it might need to be opened pretty soon.
Thank you again Steve, you're amazing!

So, Thoughts for Thursday - Tell me about an amazing gift you've received; is there a story behind it?  Your favorite gift, the most special gift... any gift you've received that has meant the world to you - I wanna hear about it!
